2008/05/18 : Gabon is right across the Equator and enjoys the strategic position of base station for the follow up of Ariane launches from French Guyana by the European Space Agency (ESA). All this from NKOLTANG ground station in the south-eastern part of Libreville, the capital of Gabon. Isn't this an additional reason for stronger ties with the Astronomy & Space Science (ASS) community and for more AAS related activities in Gabon beyond the International Year of Astronomy 2009.
March 2010
In March 2010, an ambitious partnership was signed between a major learning center at Essassa in the green outskirts of Libreville and NOMMO ASTRONOMIA.
The partnership will see both entities share resources and manpower in promoting astronomy, space sciences , new technologies of information & communication for the coming years in Gabon and beyond. Being one the best resourced learning center in Libreville (capital of Gabon), it will provide NOMMO ASTRONOMIA and the whole national node with the ideal focal point for organizing suitable events from teachers training workshops to large scale star gazing nights and conferences for a large and wide public.
