  Beyond IYA09 in Gabon

Cooperation between NOMMO ASTRONOMIA (Gabon) and Freundeskreis Astronomie Wilhelmsdorp (Germany)

Libreville (Gabon) and Wilhelmsdorf (Germany) mutually share an optimal positiononing for a Moon parallax exercise. Recently, Freundeskreis Astronomie Wilhelmsdorp (FAW) and NOMMO ASTRONOMIA decided to co-operate on a low cost project for determining the Moon parallax using appropriate images of the Moon taken at the same date and same time from both locations. A full description of the project in German language by our German counterparts is given at www.sternwarte-wilhelmsdorf.de.

This long term co-operation recently led to the FAW Group, fund raising for the purchase - for NOMMO ASTRONOMIA - of a  Celestron 650 NexStar 130 SLT GoTo (visible here) and associated components. A major boost for all our initiatives. " Bokaye " as we say in Gabon.

This was an additional first step towards a more ambitious plan of collaboration. And of course, Wilhelmsdorp is not the only place on Earth sharing such optimal positioning with respect to Libreville for a Moon parallax and related exercises. Your present location may be suitable too. What about using such comparative advantage to share some basic expertise and certainly more.

Teacher training workshop

Modelled on Galileo Teacher Training Programs (http://www.site.galileoteachers.org/) , we are getting stronger in the drive towards the development of a similar training platform in Gabon. A platform which could be extended towards most of the other "French speaking" nations on the western coast of Africa. More updates in the coming weeks as the project smoothly unfold.
